Badham & Buck, LLC is pleased to announce that Richard Dorman, formerly a partner with Cunningham Bounds, LLC, has joined the Firm as Of Counsel. Mr. Dorman is practicing in Birmingham and will focus on complex civil litigation and class actions.
Mr. Dorman graduated from the University of Alabama School of Commerce and Business Administration in 1968, with joint majors in business and pre-law, receiving numerous undergraduate honors. He attended the University of Alabama School of Law receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1971. During law school, he was Alabama Editor of the Law Review for two years and a member of the Order of the Coif. He then attended the University of Oxford, England and received a degree in International Law in 1972. Mr. Dorman practiced in Mobile for 35 years, most recently as a partner at the firm of Cunningham Bounds. Mr. Dorman moved to Birmingham and joined Badham & Buck in January 2011.
Mr. Dorman’s practice is primarily focused on actions involving consumer fraud, product liability, banking, commercial law, warranty law and building products, and class actions. He has been the principal class counsel on several class actions in the last several years, including Naef, et al. v. Masonite Corporation, et al., Cosby, et al. v. Masonite Corporation, et al. and Smith, et al. v. Masonite Corporation, et al. in the Circuit Court of Mobile County, Alabama, involving approximately 4 million homeowners and almost one billion dollars in recovery to date for class members in those cases. He was co-lead trial counsel in the State of Alabama’s $11.9 billion verdict against ExxonMobil for underpayment of royalties. (NLJ, Feb. 9, 2004).
Mr. Dorman is very active in community affairs including the Senior Citizen Services (Board of Directors 2000 - present; Board President 2005 - 2009); Mobile Symphony Board of Directors (2003 - present); University of Alabama President’s Cabinet (1999 - present); University of Alabama Law School Foundation Executive Board (2004 - present); Atticus Finch Society (2006- present); Honorable Robert G. Kendall, III Endowment Scholarship Committee (2005 - 2008); Downtown Mobile Alliance Board of Directors (2006 - 2011); Historic Mobile Preservation Society Advisor (2005 - present); and Port City Pacers, Azalea Trail Run Elite Athlete Coordinator (1984 - 2003).
